Canstar’s Most Satisfied Customers Insurance Awards

Canstar reveals the winner of its latest insurance satisfaction awards, as rated by thousands of Kiwi policy holders.

Over the past few years, insurance premiums have been on the rise. More frequent extreme weather events, Earthquake Commission levy changes and the reassessment of customer risk by insurance companies have all contributed to premium increases above the rate of inflation.

But when was the last time you reviewed your household’s insurance policies? While it’s easy to renew your policies each year, if you set and forget your insurance, you may be missing out on a better deal.

According to Canstar’s latest consumer research, well under half (42%) of Kiwi home and content policy holders review their insurance annually, and even fewer, just 32%, compare car insurance and actively seek out a better deal.

So, if you’re not up-to-date with the finer details of your insurance policies, it’s probably time to check how your insurer stacks up compared to other providers in the market.

Canstar’s research into insurance products shows levels of cover and value vary widely between providers. And the best deals in the market are reserved for policy holders willing to seek out, and demand, a better deal. And that’s where Canstar can help.

MAS: Most Satisfied Customers Winner 2025

Securing an amazing hat-trick, MAS is the winner of three of our latest Most Satisfied Customers Insurance Awards:

Most Satisfied Customers Home & Contents Award

This year, we canvassed the opinions of over 2887 Kiwis with home and contents insurance covering some of the biggest brands in the market: AA Insurance, AMI, AMP, ANZ, Aon, ASB, BNZ, FMG, MAS, NZI, State, Tower, Vero and Westpac.

MAS’s award win is based on an amazing result: across all six award categories, MAS’s customers scored their insurer top 5-Star ratings.

It’s worth noting that there were only seven perfect 5-Star ratings awarded across all 14 insurance providers in our research, and MAS achieved six of them, which is an amazing result.

Most Satisfied Customers Car Insurance Award

For our car insurance award, our research talked to 3543 vehicle owners with car insurance from AA Insurance, AMI, AMP, ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Cove, FMG, MAS, NZI, State, Tower, Trade Me Insurance, Vero and Westpac.

MAS scored its win on the back of another great set of rating across our award categories: four 5-Star ratings, for Overall Satisfaction, Customer Service, Communication and Comprehensiveness of Cover, plus great 4-Star ratings for Cost and Value for Money.

In contrast, only one other provider, Cove, achieved 5-Star ratings, which it earned for Value for Money and Cost.

Most Satisfied Customers Seniors Insurance Award

Given its excellent performance across our car, and home and contents awards, it was no surprise that MAS also dominated our insurance ratings in the older 50+ age bracket.

Reviewing your insurance policy options is important as you approach retirement. Not only do pricings change, especially for car insurance, which can be more expensive for older drivers. But levels of customer service and communication also become more important, especially for those less comfortable with digital and online options.

Canstar’s Customer Satisfaction Awards are designed to complement our Star Ratings and Awards, which are calculated by our expert researchers. For more details of our latest Home & Contents Awards and Ratings, click here, or to compare the best in car insurance, hit the button below.
