What does AA Pet Insurance offer?
AA Pet Insurance offers two policies, one for cats and one for dogs. The plans are customisable, allowing you to adapt them to your needs and budget.

What's covered by AA Pet Insurance for dogs?
The policy covers your dog for injuries such as:
- Swallowed objects
- Blistered paws from walking on hot surfaces
- Skin conditions
- Poisoning
- Cruciate ligament injury
- Car accidents
It also covers times when your dog gets sick and needs comprehensive tests or surgery. If this happens, AA can help you with costs for hospitalisation, surgery, lab and diagnostic tests, and cancer treatments.
Do note that certain events, such as dental illness or consultation fees have sub-limits. This means that irrespective of your chosen annual limit, AA will only cover certain events up to a specified sub-limit.
What's covered by AA Pet Insurance for cats?
AA Cat Insurance includes cover for injuries such as:

- Allergic reactions to insect bites
- Car accidents
- Lacerations

What's not covered by AA Pet Insurance?
AA Pet Insurance has some exclusions around animals of a certain age, as well as some animals with pre-existing conditions.
Policies do not cover damage to property, people or other animals caused by your pet, or for treatment as a result of negligent owner behaviour.
Note that some pre-existing conditions may be covered after 18 months. Unlike most pet insurers in New Zealand, AA can cover some pre-existing conditions, depending on whether they are considered a temporary or chronic condition.
If your pet has a temporary condition that occurred or existed before you took out the policy (or arises during the relevant waiting period) but has been symptom-free for 18 months, you can apply for your pet to be covered for that condition under the policy.
