Other meal kit brands

Not all meal kit brands in the market qualify for our ratings (based on minimum survey sample size), but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth considering. Here is another meal kit brand to check out before making your final decision.

Woop!

Woop!'s point of difference is that the ingredients for its dishes are preprepared. For example, vegetables are diced and chopped and sometimes even par-cooked. Because of this extra preparation, Woop!'s prices tend to be higher than its competitors'.

Woop! currently offers five menu selections:

  • Foodie: internationally inspired dishes ($315 – 4 people/4 dishes)
  • Classic: family and kid friendly recipes ($255 – 4 people/4 dishes)
  • Balance: healthy recipes averaging 550Kcal ($320 – 4 people/4 dishes)
  • Vegetarian ($265 – 4 people/4 dishes)
  • Gluten-free ($265 – 4 people/3 dishes)

Meal kits come in options to feed between 1-4 people with 3-5 dishes per week.

Choosing the right meal kit for you

Food and mealtimes are a focus of family life. But planning menus, hitting the shops and then cooking food can be stressful, especially if you're having to cater for a large, busy clan.

That's why many people rely on meal kits to relieve the pressure of planning and preparing evening meals. Of the 637 Kiwis in our award survey, well over half (66%) said that they use meal kits primarily for the convenience of having a lot of the hard work around dinnertimes done for them.

This is reflected in our consumer feedback and the fact that the most important factor for those using meal kits is not Value for Money, Taste or Freshness, but Customer Service! If there's a problem with your meal kit delivery, you need it sorted, pronto, or people are going to get hangry!

However, there is a cost to convenience, which is why when rating their meal kit choices, Value for Money is the biggest factor for just under a quarter of meal kit buyers (21%).

It's worth noting that over the past two years, meal kit prices across our featured brands have increased only slightly, around 2%, so they continue to offer good value for time-poor families.

Here's the full rundown of what the consumers in our survey rate as the most important factors when it comes to their Overall Satisfaction levels with their meal kit choices:

  • Customer Service: 28%
  • Value for Money: 21%
  • Taste of the Food: 20%
  • Freshness of Food: 14%
  • Variety of Meals: 9%
  • Flexibility: 8%
