Canstar's Most Satisfied Customers Lawn Mowers Award reveals the lawn mower brand that delivers the best consumer satisfaction to its customers.

We ask Kiwi mower owners to rate their satisfaction with their choice of lawn mower brand by Overall Satisfaction, as well as important criteria such as Quality of Grass Cut, Reliability & Performance and Value for Money.

The best lawn mower brands in NZ

The brands rated are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.

1. Makita

Makita Logo logo

Makita is the clear winner of Canstar's 2026 Most Satisfied Customers Lawn Mowers Award.

Makita achieves a perfect 5-Star rating for Reliability and Performance, the No.1 concern for Kiwi mower consumers.

The tool brand also scores 5 Stars for Maintenance & Servicing, plus 4.5 Stars for Ease of Use and Quality of Grass Cut.

Makita sells a wide range of electric battery lawn mowers in New Zealand, falling under its three battery model ranges: LXT, ConnectX and XGT.

Base mower models, without battery packs, start around $410.


2. Ozito

Ozito's selection of cordless, electric and cylinder lawn mowers can be found for sale at Bunnings Warehouse stores. Ozito's range includes:

  • Electric mowers: a range of corded and cordless models.
  • Cylinder mowers: an electric and a manual model.
  • Robot model: ideal for small lawns.

3. Stihl

Stihl is an iconic tool brand in NZ, where it retails 12 mowers, split equally between battery and petrol models.

Its sturdy petrol models range in price from around $800 to $2400, while its electric base models without battery packs cost from $735.


4. LawnMaster

LawnMaster is a Kiwi company that has been producing quality garden tools since 1946. Its range of lawnmowers encompasses:

  • Petrol lawnmowers
  • Electric battery lawnmowers
  • Petrol drum mowers
  • Robotic mowers

5. Bosch

Founded in the late 1800s in Germany, Bosch originally specialised in precision mechanical and electrical engineering. Today Bosch produces a selection of electric lawn mowers designed for professional and home use.

Bosch's consumer range encompasses one corded mower, the UniversalRotak 37-555, plus two battery-operated cordless mowers:

  • AdvancedRotak 36V-44-750
  • CityMower 18V

6. Masport

The Masport brand was founded here in 1910. Its mowers are built on over 100 years of manufacturing experience, and are designed and engineered in New Zealand to deal with the toughest Kiwi conditions. Masport's range of mowers includes:

Petrol lawn mowers

For a regular lawn, Masport's 8/0 Series is a great place to start. These mowers were first introduced in the '70s and have withstood the test of time. The 8/0 series features long-life, rust-free aluminium chassis used in conjunction with renowned engine brands, such as Briggs & Stratton & Kohler.

For larger lawns, Masport's Contractor series delivers tough, reliable and highly durable mowers.

Battery lawn mowers

7. Ryobi

Ryobi is one of the world's largest and most innovative power tool companies, and produces an extensive choice of lawnmowers.

Ryobi's lawnmower range comprises entirely battery models: eight push lawn mowers, and four self-propelled mowers, plus three ride-on mowers.


Choosing the right lawn mower for you

When asked for the most important factor when rating their mower brands, close to a third (30%) of Kiwis in our award survey cited Reliability & Performance.

Quality of Grass Cut (22%) and Value for Money (20%) are also important for mower consumers, each rated the No.1 concern by around a fifth of those in our survey.
